Thriller with a sobering outcome

TTC ladies can’t turn a 4:0 lead into victory

Thriller with a sobering outcome

“You can’t win a game if you don’t get anything out of the back four,” was coach Rainer Schmidt’s sober analysis after TTC 46’s disappointing 5:5 against TTG Bingen/Münster-Sarmsheim.
It all started so well. The doubles team of Hsien-Tzu Cheng/ Yuan Wan did not have to fight much to clearly prevail against Rakovac/Mynarova. And next door, Ece Harac/Mateja Jeger were also successful when they defeated Qi Shi/Kuzmina in the deciding set.

Hsien-Tzu Cheng finally triumphed again when she put Katerina Tomanovska in her place in three straight sets. The match between Yuan Wan and Lea Rakovac went the full distance. Yuan won the first two sets 12:10 each, but had to concede the next two by a narrow margin before winning the deciding set 11:4.

With the score at 4:0, there was no doubt that the league leaders would win against the team at the bottom of the table – but things turned out differently.
The first highly exciting match then developed between Ece Harac and Elena Kuzmina, which Kuzmina won for her colors in extra time of the deciding set. Not much came together for Mateja Jeger in her match against Qi Shi, she was only close in the second set.
Hsien-Tzu Cheng delivered an outstanding performance, but ultimately had to concede in the fifth round against Lea Rakovac. Yuan Wan then bagged the fifth point when she won 3:1 against Katerina Tomanovska, who had never been successful in the second round.
However, the 5:3 was not enough for victory.
Both Ece Harac and Mateja Jeger lost in the fifth set.
Ece was able to equalize the set twice against Qi Shi, led 4:2 in the final set, but then conceded nine points in a row to make it 4:11.

Mateja was also only defeated in the deciding set against Elena Kuzmina, meaning that an unexpected draw was ultimately recorded on the scoreboard.
TSV Langstadt is now one point off the lead and the remaining games against Kolbermoor (February 23), in Langstadt (March 1) and in Berlin (March 22) are not exactly easy, meaning that one of the top two places for direct qualification for the semi-finals of the playoffs is in danger, even if third-placed Dachau also has extremely tough games ahead of it.
They actually wanted to avoid this risk today …
